Despite having an 8,000 Km coastline and a high diversity of shark and ray species, Brazil has very few shark conservation projects in the field and practically no shark-specific conservation measures in its MPA management plans and actions. This project intends to change this by developing a blueprint for shark conservation in a coastal MPA with a science-based survey, involvement of local communities, and the promotion of non-extractive use through ecotourism.
