Sawfish are highly endangered and already locally extinct off many countries where they once thrived. Significant populations remain in the Caribbean yet are poorly understood and under-protected. Experts from research and conservation organizations have teamed up to improve the scientific understanding and legal protection of Caribbean sawfish, starting in the Bahamas and Cuba, while setting the stage for broader, regional endeavors to reverse declines of these remarkable rays.
