These funds awarded to the Ocean Foundation will support the efforts of Shark Advocates International, Shark Trust, ProjectAWARE, and Ecology Action Center to secure protections from finning and overfishing for vulnerable elasmobranch species in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean through action by three regional fishery management organizations. Specifically, the grantees seek to prevent overexploitation of certain sharks and rays through the adoption of catch limits, better implementation of existing limits and a ban on at sea removal of shark fins.
