Protecting Sharks and Rays in the Spanish Mediterranean - Surfing the 30x30 Momentum to Secure Shark and Ray Conservation Goals

This project focuses on reversing the severe decline of shark and ray populations in the Spanish Mediterranean, particularly around the Balearic Islands. By collaborating with NGOs, researchers, and fishermen, Marilles Foundation aims to protect critical habitats through the designation of marine protected areas and the implementation of effective conservation measures in management and fisheries plans. Additionally, the team will work to increase national protection for threatened species. This initiative will not only benefit local waters but also serve as a model for broader Mediterranean conservation efforts.
