CREMA has worked in the area since 2017 and assisted in the creation of two marine protected areas. The IUCN recently declared the Coyote-Bongo an Important Shark and Ray Area (ISRA), of which roughly half is located within protected waters, but the other half lies in adjacent unprotected waters. This project aims to generate the science needed to propose a conservation status for these waters, in collaboration with the authorities and local organized groups.
