Assessment of the Extent of Shark Depredation in North Male and Baa atolls, Maldives

Over a decade ago, the Maldives established its' waters as a sanctuary for sharks. However, this sanctuary faces challenges as conflicts with fishermen arise over perceived increases in shark interactions, leading to reduced catches.The full extent of shark interactions and their effects on fisheries remains inadequately assessed. This project will advocate for modifying fishing gear with the use of shark deterrents and proposing localised solutions to mitigate shark interactions in fisheries.
